Generally speaking, the best place to start looking for land is in the local estate agencies.
Look out for plots which already have outline planning permission for a suitably sized house. This ensures that you will be allowed to build a house on the plot. Remember, outline planning makes the plot more valuable to the seller so if it isn’t in place it could mean that you won’t be allowed to build.
If a plot already has detailed planning in place, this means that a specific house design has been approved for the site. It can make the plot more expensive because a lot of the early work has been done and paid for but you may not want the house that’s been chosen. Don’t despair though if it’s the plot you’ve set your heart on. For a relatively small fee you can usually change the design to one of your own choosing.
